Most tween will have their first periods when they’re between 11 and 14, but anywhere from 9-16 years are also considered normal.

BEHAVIOUR CHANGE:

Considering emotional side of periods, your tween may be excited about the arrival of her period; after all, it is a sign of entering into adulthood. But some parents may find that their tween are anxious, afraid also. This is normal behavior change, too, but all the more reason depends upon tween to tween and also they are being prepared.

You may also observe sudden behaviour changes in tween prior to 1-2 week of period and that these changes may be specifically.

Specific behaviour change along with physical changes may be observed prior to 1-2 weeks of bleeding starts and some changes may continue due to age factors. Changes may be positive as well as negative and need to be tackling delicately. Hormones changes are also correlated with Chemical changes in the brain.

Positive changes are like Clarity in thoughts; more confident and negative changes are like mood swings, anxious, irritability or sadness etc.

Parenting tips for their tween:

If you want your tween to not experience emotional periods, there is a lot you can do. There is nothing to be shy or hide something.

Period being part of humanity growth, parent must discuss openly and motivate tweens for their emotional well-being.

Parents should discuss with tween in detail about periods and prepare them about periods, cramps or emotional changes happen during this time. Knowing that Acne, Cramps, and emotional changes are coming will help tween to deal easily and ahead of time or be prepared.

Prepared tween may accept period as growth in life and an unprepared tween may lead to syndrome with the words like “GIRLS PROBLEM”.

PMS: PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) is when a girl evolves emotional and physical changes that happen before or during her period. These symptoms include moodiness, sadness, irritability anxiety, bloating, and acne. Symptoms may remain or go away after few days.

Motivate your tween to stay relaxed, stay alone when she’s is feeling anxious or irritable. Spending time alone will help to stay relaxed and get through the worst of it or before an argument erupts. In case spending time alone doesn’t help, try spending time with friends.

Evolve tween with her hobby or an interest to divert her mind from problems. Evolve her in art & craft activities like draw, cooking, writing or music etc. Sometimes exercises are also one of best option to change the mood.

Exercise relaxes physically as well as mentally. Walking/Aerobic is also useful to improve the mood.

Period signs and symptoms usually remain for 3-4 days after bleeding begins. 

Common signs & symptoms that your period is approaching are:

  • Acne: One of the common symptoms of period is Acne. Women are more prone to acne due to any hormonal changes in the body especially during periods. And even adult women are more prone to acne during period. You may also notice breakouts on your chin before or during period.
  • Fatigue : You are tired but you will not be able to sleep. Your sleep will become unstable. Hormonal changes may disturb your sleep patterns and makes you tired. Hormones changes may increase your body temperature during sleeping.
  • Cramps: Cramps is another common symptom when periods come. In contrast to  other symptoms, which usually begin 1-2 weeks before your period and end when bleeding starts, cramps usually comes right before your period and last for 2-3 days.
  • Contipation/Diarrhea: Your digestive system may disturb 1-2 weeks before your period. Depends upon person to person Some women may suffer constipation or diarrhea or both.
  • Bloating:  Bloating is another Symptom before periods. Reduce salt intake and eat more fruits and vegetable, and exercise regularly.
  • Mood swings: Hormonal changes that causes period may also affect your emotions and bring behaviour changes. You may feel angry, anxious, irritable or positive side you may feel more confident and mature.
